A cornerstone of this development is CloudHQ’s announcement of a US$4.8 billion investment to construct a mega data center campus in Queretaro. This campus, comprising six critical computing and cloud storage facilities, is specifically designed to support AI-driven services. The project is anticipated to create 7,200 construction jobs and 900 permanent, highly qualified positions upon completion.
Simultaneously, Mexican policymakers are actively working to shape the country’s AI future. Deputy Eruviel Ávila has called upon the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (CONCAMIN) to collaborate on a regulatory framework for AI, aiming to guide technology development and application without stifling innovation.
Beyond infrastructure and policy, AI adoption among Mexican professionals is notably high. According to Michael Page’s Talent Trends 2025 report, 37% of professionals in Mexico already utilize AI tools such as ChatGPT, Midjourney, or Microsoft Copilot in their daily work. A significant two-thirds of these users report enhanced productivity and improved work quality as a direct result of AI integration.
Further solidifying its commitment to AI, Mexico is developing its own artificial intelligence language model, a project backed by technology giant Nvidia. Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard announced this initiative, emphasizing its role in integrating Mexico into the new data-based global economic order. Ebrard stated, ‘AI is the modern alphabet. Either we hurry up and master that alphabet, or it’s going to be a huge disadvantage [for us] in the new world arrangement we’re seeing emerge today.’ Nvidia’s Latin America director, Marcio Aguiar, confirmed the company’s collaboration, focusing on training to develop specialized talent and ensuring the model draws data from Mexican culture and history. This project is expected to be a primary launch platform at the Mexico IA+ Accelerated Investment international event.
President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration is also prioritizing AI, with the upcoming launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Laboratory as one of 18 key actions outlined in Plan México. Mexico possesses two crucial advantages for its technological growth: a young, eager workforce and 5.5 million economic units capable of connecting with this talent. The government aims to make its AI project accessible to over 5 million university students and businesses, with tangible results expected within two years.
